What’s it like to ride in the middle of your bike?

The most noticeably unique feature of Mistress bikes is that, compared with mainstream “patriarchal performance” geometry, the front of the bike is shorter and the rear of the bike is longer. This is obvious in our significantly longer chainstays. Many people ask how this affects the ride. Let’s get into this, shall we? Fore-aft weight […]

How do Mistresses pump and jump?

I get this question a lot from Pinkbike readers. In the mainstream mountain bike media, we’ve been led to believe that cool, shreddy bikes have short chainstays and stodgy, cruisy bikes have long chainstays. That all started with Gary Fisher ‘s Genesis Geometry in the ’90s, and it’s become dogma. If you look at geo

Why do Mistresses have single pivot suspension?

I get this question often. Here is my thinking: First, what is single pivot suspension? On most mainstream bikes you’ll see multiple arms and links and pivots that control the movement of the rear wheel and the behavior of the shock. Do these work? Yes! After all, who’s making bikes with that kind of wild geometry, anyway? 🙂 I’m very interested, but I have a few questions: Thanks! Coda H. Hi Coda! Thanks

Behold The Mistress v2!

The bike that started this whole adventure. I had this frame built as a way to test my ideas on mountain bike geometry. Wow! It worked so well I decided to offer Mistress Cycles to the world … and I decided to race that bike at the 2024 UCI Masters Downhill Mountain Bike World Championships.

Production update – May 28, 2024

Racing masters downhill worlds on the Pink Mistress

The Pink Mistress feels so good, so capable, that I decided not to race the Demo Race downhill bike at the 2024 UCI Masters Downhill Mountain Bike World Championships. After 22 years with Specialized, I wrote them a note thanking them for their long support and telling them I have to make my own bikes.
